Town Appeal

As you travel through Sprague, try to make a stop in each Village and look at the beautiful scenery and historic buildings that the Garden Club has enhanced with their seasonal plantings, in containers and in decorative borders.

Each of our villages has their own unique charm and appeal.

Baltic has a playground that is handicap-accessible with a double picnic table. You can have an old- fashioned skating party with a bonfire on Pine Pond (across from the Recreation fields on Rt. 97). Those who don't want to skate can walk across the street and stroll around the perimeter of the field or jog on the 1/4 mile walking/running track. The Veterans' Memorial Park (adjacent to Lord's bridge on West Main Street) boats a Gazebo to sit in on hot nights, feel the cool breeze off the river and listen to concerts put on by local people. On bright summer days you can walk around the 300-acre Baltic Reservoir and watch the wildlife.

Hanover is noted for its historic cemeteries. It also has a great playground for children, and the oldest post office in Sprague, established on May 17, 1866. (Lewis Saxton, Post Master).

Versailles originally was called Eagleville. In 1871, S.L. and T.D. Sayles bought the Vers Woolen Mill in Eagleville and called it the Vers-Sayles Woolen Mill. This is perhaps the origin of the name Versailles. On May 13, 1872, the name of the Post Office was changed to Versailles.

Our scenic little villages are so close together that anyone who likes a good hike could make a walking tour of all three an enjoyable part of their visit to Sprague!

Please check back periodically, as we will be updating this page to reflect all the recreational activities and programs going on in Sprague throughout the year.
